A Family Picks Their Top Ten Comfort Shows
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You know that moment when your day is cooked, your brain won’t settle, and you need something safe on the TV just to breathe again? That’s the energy we’re chasing as we build our family Top 10 comfort shows list, the stuff we can rewatch a thousand times, quote in our sleep, and throw on as background noise when life feels too loud. Comfort TV is not the same as “best TV,” and we make that line very clear while we draft, rank, and roast each other’s picks.
We each bring personal favorites to the table, then we negotiate a final list that includes heavy hitters like The Office, King of Queens, Modern Family, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, plus animated comfort picks like Phineas and Ferb and Wallace and Gromit. Along the way, we debate what makes a show actually comforting: consistent seasons, familiar jokes, low-stress pacing, and whether you can genuinely fall asleep to it. We also admit the uncomfortable truth that a great show can be the wrong choice at night if it makes you anxious or pulls your full attention.
After the rankings, we hit a bonus round with swaps, lock the final Top 10, then pivot to “what was good this week,” including Dragon Con stories, Rachel finishing The Bear, and a few wild media notes that feel very on-brand for us. If you’ve ever searched for comfort shows to watch, bedtime TV recommendations, or the best shows to rewatch, you’ll leave with a list, a framework, and plenty to argue about.

Why Comfort Shows Matter
SPEAKER_02When you're trying to get to sleep, when you've had a bad day, when you've just watched something that is really like out there and like depressing, you need a comfort show. Oh yes. And we've already done our top 10 shows of all time. And there was there were some comments that were mentioning some other shows, and I felt like we need to do comfort shows. So today we're going to do our top 10 comfort shows.
Our Personal Top Five Picks
SPEAKER_02Let's start off by each of us going through our top five. Jackson, go ahead and start.
SPEAKER_03Brooklyn 99, Modern Family, The Office. Troll Hunters, King of Queens. Calvin. I gotta get my phone out because I forgot. Oh my gosh. Oh I was on such a roll.
SPEAKER_04Man, we were doing so well. Okay, hold on. All right. Phineas and fur, modern family, Wallace and Gromit, X Men 97, and Troll Hunters. Rachel?
SPEAKER_02Give me that. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04I don't remember mine either, by the way.
SPEAKER_03I was the only one that came prepared today.
SPEAKER_02That's what she said.
SPEAKER_00Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, King of Queens, and The Office.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let me have your phone because I just want to feel included. Here we go, my top five. The Office, King of Queens. I think you should leave, which is a Tim Robinson sketch comedy show. Stranger Things, seasons one through four. And freaks and geeks.
SPEAKER_04Oh, you put Stranger Things? So we're getting that off the list. No, we're not.
SPEAKER_00Seasons one through four.
Drafting The Family Top Ten
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm Josh.
SPEAKER_00I'm Rachel. I'm Calvin.
SPEAKER_02I'm Jackson. And this is Relatively Terrible. I love you, but you're all terrible. Welcome back to the Relatively Terrible Podcast. We are the Uploads of Fun family questioning culture with comedy and just enough dysfunction to feel normal.
SPEAKER_01I'm a dysfunction!
SPEAKER_02If you want that on a t-shirt, let us know now by calling 1-800-IFeel Dysfunction. We're gonna start off by picking one out of the list, placing it on our top 10 comfort shows list. Oh yeah. And then we're moving on. And remember, we don't know what's coming next. After we pick all the top 10, then we got a bonus round where we can make some changes. And that's where it can get kind of spicy. Here we go. I'm starting this time. Brooklyn 9 9. Mmm.
SPEAKER_03Jackson, where would you place Brooklyn 9-9 on this list? I'll be nice. I'll say seven. I'm willing to be, I'm willing to go seven. Yeah. Seven.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I can get on board with seven.
SPEAKER_02I think seven is a great choice. I think it's a great show, but for me, close your ears, Jackson. It's not consistent all the way throughout, and there's certain seasons that are very comforting to me. Like the one where they go to Florida, the witness protection. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00I have seen those episodes so many times because yes, you do put those on on repeats.
SPEAKER_02That is an episode. If you put that on, I will be asleep in 30 seconds. That's how comforting it is to me. Hot take.
SPEAKER_03Brooklyn 99 ended better than The Office. The Office, even though we love The Office, it has one of the worst endings ever. Wait, the last episode? Last episode I did not care for whatsoever.
SPEAKER_02Oh, whoa!
SPEAKER_00See, I'm okay with the last episode, but like the last two seasons blow. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02The last episode is incredible.
SPEAKER_00And season two is the best one, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Right?
SPEAKER_02I think seasons two, three, and four are mecca as far as television.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_02But let's not talk about the office season.
SPEAKER_00Here we go. We're gonna get it.
SPEAKER_02What'd you get?
SPEAKER_00I think you should leave.
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm gonna go ahead and start that one off. I'll say I'll say nine. Nine. Sure, nine. Wow. I mean sorry, Tim Robinson. It's not anything against you, but I don't think we all watch it. And it's just something I recently started putting on like at lunch because it's so funny and it's becoming familiar, and I really love it. So I think nine is okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I mean I think it is very funny, but it's definitely in terms of comfort. I have not watched it enough to find it comforting. I will actually watch it. It's not it's not background yet for me by any means.
SPEAKER_02I agree. That's why I put it at nine. I don't know if I could go to sleep to it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, probably not. Calvin.
SPEAKER_02All right, tank us there.
SPEAKER_04Ooh, troll hunters! Oh, okay. Six. I don't think it's top five, but I'm going six. Jackson? I'm gonna go eight.
SPEAKER_02I think eight is fair.
SPEAKER_00I think eight as well.
SPEAKER_02You know what? You guys do love it, but I don't think it's something you could throw on to go to sleep to. Yeah, okay. It's a great show, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, but Troll Hunters at eight. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Dang it.
SPEAKER_04We're still throwing these pieces of paper all over the room again. Come on, get something good. Get something good. Come on, pack wine! Family guy.
SPEAKER_03Ooh.
SPEAKER_04Six? I think that's a six. It's hilarious, but I haven't watched enough of it so I can see it.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say I'd even be willing to go ten on that. Nope.
SPEAKER_04I don't think it's a ten. Nope. Stop. Stop pre-choosing. I already know what should go at ten.
SPEAKER_00Six. It's either six or ten.
SPEAKER_03It's six. I guess we have to put it at six, but I mean that one episode of with Quagmire's dad becoming a woman. Yes. That one alone is fantastic. And if you put on the older ones, I will fall just fall asleep just as fast as you.
SPEAKER_00Yes, the older ones in particular, because we did watch those so much. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Here we go. Man, no arguments so far.
SPEAKER_00No, this has been a very peaceful episode so far. Yeah, that's okay.
SPEAKER_02X-Men 97. Oh, I'm going three. I won't. I gotta go 10. That's not a comfort show. No. Yeah, it's not a comfort show.
SPEAKER_04But there's no, that's not 10.
SPEAKER_02You're you're listening in terms of quality, I will tell you, it is like, especially that second season, it's one of the best pieces of writing I've seen in a long time. But it is not a comfort show for me personally. And I don't even know if it would be for you. I don't see you re-watching it a ton.
SPEAKER_04I need to re-watch season two, but I watched season one eight times. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02So I guess I could give you five. No, ten. I I just don't think anyone else here other than us likes it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, then it's I like it, but I have not watched season two. I watched season one. I I have to kind of lean towards ten and then if we get stranger things, I'm switching it.
SPEAKER_04I'm switching it. I'm willing to switch. Well, we've got a bonus round, that's why we have Stranger Things is not comforting. Sorry.
SPEAKER_00Okay, here we go. Bob's burgers.
SPEAKER_04Five, five. So again, I disagree because the show was like this, and then like it fell off the bar.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna have to make some changes then in the bonus round. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, I mean, I agree, and in terms of comfort, it's really like the first three seasons for me. There's definitely some good episodes in seasons four, five, and six, but in terms of comfort and wanting something really familiar and um background noise, yeah, it's seasons one through three. All right, so Bob's burger's is going to five.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Come on.
SPEAKER_00Office. Ooh, whoa, it's a grommet. It's a four. Four. We're just going to go. Well, we kind of we always do this.
SPEAKER_04Grommet, baby. I'm sorry, but a grand day out is the most comforting piece of television. It's so comforting to me. It's so good.
SPEAKER_00And I'm gonna back you up on that because you started watching that when you were roughly two years old, three years old. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I still watch it today.
SPEAKER_00Remember that? We were living in Texas, and like before he would go to bed, we'd go in the living room, we would turn all the lights out, we would watch an episode of Wallace and Gromet before he went to bed.
SPEAKER_02Wednesday down. So I I like Wallace and Grommet. I hate it. You hate it?
SPEAKER_03I didn't know that. I hate it. After watching, after him watching it the other day, I hate it, you guys.
SPEAKER_01How can you hate? Because you've put it on so many mother.
SPEAKER_02Wow. That is here's my thing, though. It's not a comforting show for you. Oh, for me it is. Because when I watch it, all I think about is all the effing work that went into it. And that makes me anxious. See, that's a that's a personal thing.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's why I said me. If you hate it, that's not hating it? That is That was just him! I know, I know. But I watched That's the worst take you every day. I watched that. The episode I watched yesterday, uh The Wrong Trousers. Great episode. I was loving. So is that the new worst take on our podcast ever? It might be. Say it then, man. That is officially the worst take I've put on this podcast that Wallace and Grommet is terrible. If you guys have not watched Wallace and Grommet, there's four episodes and two movies. I recommend you watch everything because it's just peak. It's so good.
SPEAKER_00I love the bakery one too.
SPEAKER_04Alright, let Jackson go.
SPEAKER_00It looks so good.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the one with that. Yes. Oh no. Jackson, you're digging your the hole deeper. Just go.
SPEAKER_04You get Stranger Things. So three? No!
SPEAKER_00You want it at number one?
SPEAKER_04Nope. Nope. I have I have plans. I I'm Okay, Stranger Things at three. I yeah.
SPEAKER_03I know it's gonna get something scary.
SPEAKER_01We really didn't. Even though these were the two A-holes who won Barb? Oh my god. Yeah. We were like little kids who saw a dead body. They were weeping! It wasn't like they were scared, they were like, Barb, oh Barb.
SPEAKER_00I think that's the hardest I've seen you two cry at the same time. Your androgynous brand of sexuality. I miss it so much. Not androgynous. We have one and two left. We kind of we always do this. We work in a weird way.
SPEAKER_04Oh god, I'm so scared. Wait, what? Wait, wait, wait, what is it? What is it?
SPEAKER_03Big bang.
SPEAKER_01Two. This is the shittiest list.
SPEAKER_00Big bang theory is not comforting. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02Okay. For me, it is.
SPEAKER_00The first couple, the first, it's another show where like the first six, maybe even into season seven, and then it fell off.
SPEAKER_02Listen, Priya, once Priya shows up, I'm done.
SPEAKER_04I could ruin it. I can ruin this. What do you mean? Okay. When Jackson was in the hospital for the first time, I would sleep in your room, and that's the show you would play. Oh shit. And I couldn't fall asleep. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Alright, well, thanks for the first time.
SPEAKER_02Wait to bring the whole energy down in the room. Like, I can ruin this. And he did. He delivered his promise.
SPEAKER_00Okay, here's number one. Office, mother trucker, office! This deserves to be number one. Wait, what? It deserves it. King of Queens.
SPEAKER_04No. No, no. I can't argue with that, baby.
SPEAKER_01King of Queens!
SPEAKER_04I disagree because when we were in Atlanta, you put on that show and I couldn't fall asleep. So I was paying attention. I never truly realized how terrible their relationship really is. Like, I never realized that. Like, she is just down on him. And I was like, I'm just not realizing this.
SPEAKER_00Holy crap. Listen, listen. I think the first couple of seasons, I'm on board. But I'm telling you, by the end of that show, I hated Carrie.
SPEAKER_03And hot take, Carrie's not that attractive. Oh no, she's not. Especially now. Like, hmm.
SPEAKER_00She's had a little too much work done.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right.
Bonus Round Swaps And Final List
SPEAKER_00Honorable mentions.
SPEAKER_02Let's do the honorable mentions. Phineas and Ferb, freaks and geeks. Well, Modern Family.
SPEAKER_00Oh!
SPEAKER_02And the Office.
SPEAKER_00We gotta get Modern Family and the Office on this easy replace.
SPEAKER_02There's a lot to I'm gonna go ahead and get rid of number three Stranger Things. Oh, okay. Thank you. And I'm gonna add the Office. Okay. Really? Not number one?
SPEAKER_00I am in love with that top three. I'm sure you guys are gonna mess with it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the top three should not be messed with because that is in our home. You know, I don't know, Rach, you go next.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'm gonna get rid of, I think um Family Guy. Interesting. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. Uh because you're gonna get rid of it and add what?
SPEAKER_00I think I wanna add, we gotta get Modern Family on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, replace Family Guy with the Food.
SPEAKER_00And I think I think Modern Family at six feels feels right to me. And that's something I think we can all get on board with.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay, okay. Alright, Cal, what are you doing? He's gonna do something dumb. He I can tell.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry, but I'm getting rid of Bob's burgers, and I'm putting Phineas and Ferb. Oh. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And I wouldn't say I find Phineas and Ferb necessarily comforting, but that is definitely a show we watch together a lot.
SPEAKER_03But every time I've watched it, I've laughed. Okay, so what are you replacing Wallace and Grommet with? I'm not replacing it, I'm moving it. Oh it's gonna say you're gonna put Brooklyn 99. Yeah, Brooklyn 99's gonna go at number four.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm fine with that because Wallace and Gromit is still in the top ten. Okay. Wow.
SPEAKER_00We were pretty What did we miss?
SPEAKER_02So the only thing we missed was Freaks and Geeks. Oh yes! Shut the front door!
SPEAKER_04Hate that show. Give me that. Like, see, the way you feel about Wallace and Grommet is the way I feel about Freaks and Geeks. And you're wrong. I hate that show.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Makes me uncomfortable. That wasn't very comforting, but here is our top 10 comfort shows for our family. Remember, this is our family. When you're watching this, you don't need to get butthurt. You can have an opinion, but don't take it as an affront to you.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I don't think we're also, we're also not saying these are objectively the best shows. This is comfort. It's just comfort, right?
SPEAKER_02Like number 10, X-Men 97. Nine, I think you should leave Tim Robinson on the list. Eight, Troll Hunters. Seven, Wallace and Gromit. Six, Modern Family. Five, Phineas and Ferb. Four, Brooklyn 9-9. I think he means Brooklyn 9-9. It's not Brooklyn 9-9. The Office. Two, Big Bang Theory. And one, the King of Mother and Queens, baby. Let's go.
SPEAKER_04I just realized I got all five of my shows on that list. Nice. Very cool. I got my top five and that top ten. So I'm happy.
SPEAKER_02If y'all have any top 10 lists that you want to see us do, and they can be the craziest things you can think of, just go to uploadsofun.com slash stuff, send us an email, and we will definitely consider
What Was Good This Week
SPEAKER_02doing that. All right, what was good this week? I know one big thing for me and the boys Dragon Con. Dragon Con. Oh yeah. The 40th anniversary of Dragon Con. We were lucky enough to be there as celebrity guests. We also got to be on panels, we got to be part of the media, we got to be interviewed by the media. It was really, really fun and just such a blessing to be there. The only thing that sucked ass was Rachel was not there with us. Oh and we had people asking, where's the mom? Yep.
SPEAKER_00City next year.
SPEAKER_04Rachel's gonna have to start going to conference. Oh, and we went to the vendor hall. Yes. I spent $270.
SPEAKER_02He's just proud because he only went $20 over the limit he set for himself. So that you know, that's good. Um about you, Rachel. What was good for you this week?
SPEAKER_00Uh I finished watching the bear.
SPEAKER_02What did you think?
SPEAKER_00I loved it. I loved it.
SPEAKER_02You're so sexy.
SPEAKER_00I don't I don't know that it's a show that I'll re-watch. Okay, you're less sexy. I mean, I watched all of season four while you guys were gone.
SPEAKER_02And I, you know, just in your defense, I did request that she not finish season five while I was gone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I wanted to experience that with you.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I was home alone for almost six full days, but I don't typically watch an entire season of a show, like just in a couple of days. So for me, I watched it at a pretty good clip because it was. I watched all of season four and the first five episodes of season five. Very cool. Uh while you guys were gone, so very good. I liked it.
SPEAKER_04What about you boys? Anything extra to add? Uh new lanterns episode came out. It was very good. A lot of male nudity. Yep, and a cow getting cut into many pieces. That was cool.
SPEAKER_02That was awesome. That was really cool. I'm sure Pita wasn't too happy about it, but oh well. Jackson? Pita's never happy.
SPEAKER_03Uh we got to eat a Chewy's in Atlanta. That was great.
SPEAKER_00Oh I'm G Jelly over that one.
SPEAKER_04You should be. As Spongebob once said, Oh my god!
SPEAKER_02And that is relatively terrible. Good job, Callan. It's always you.
SPEAKER_00It is. It usually is you say something terrible.
